inspired by Scottish landscapes

We had the pleasure to create this bespoke planting for Jorum Studio, a modern Scottish perfume brand.

The planting we designed consisted of several planters outside Jorum Studio’s retail boutique in Edinburgh.

The planting was inspired by Scottish landscape and Calton Hill – a world renown Edinburgh’s landmark.

The selection of plants included broom (Cytisus)– a very popular plant that is seen in landscapes across Scotland, as well as the common gorse shrub (Ulex europaeus). The inspiration for this latter choice came from one of Jorum Studio’s significant fragrances, part of the Scottish Odyssey collection, called Gorseland.

To bring the reference to the flora of Scotland’s sand dunes, beaches and coasts, which are another source of inspiration for the Jorum Studio team, some sea buckthorn shrubs were planted, to showcase its narrow, willow-like silvery foliage.

Most of the planting selected has quite rough, loose and a bit unkept appearance, bringing closer the association to the wilder landscapes of Scotland.

The Jorum Studio planting gently transitions from its prickly and skeletal appearance in winter, into the succession of gentle, subtle blooms appearing at intervals as the year progresses.
